Christmas Tree Shops Recall Animated Safari and Aquarium Lamps due to Fire and Shock Hazards

HARTFORD, June 22 -- The Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers about a voluntary recall of some animated safari and aquarium lamps announced today by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Nantucket Distributing Co. Inc. of Middleboro, Massachusetts.

About 35,000 lamps are being recalled due to defective wiring in them that can cause an electrical short, posing fire and shock hazards to consumers. Christmas Tree Shops has received three reports of sparking. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

The lamps were sold at Christmas Tree Shops stores from December 2009 through May 2011 for between $7 and $8.

This recall involves Safari and Aquarium themed lamps with UPC numbers 000015556905, 000015618955, 000015821591, and 000015821607 printed on the price label on the cardboard packaging. The decorative lamps are silver and feature rotating films with aquatic and safari scenes. While there are no brand markings directly on the product, “Made in China” is printed on the bottom of the lamp. (Sample below)
