Commission on the Standardization of the Collection of Evidence in Sexual Assault Investigations

Minutes of the meeting of June 9, 2014

Attendance: Maureen Platt, Chair, Joy Reho, Marielle Daniels, Candida Fusco, Linda Cimino, Denise Covington

The meeting was called to order at 3 p.m.

The minutes from the March Meeting were reviewed and approved.

Denise Covington gave an update on the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner program and informed the Commission about the progress of the program and the number of cases seen by the SAFE examiners.

Linda Cimino gave a report from the Bill Paying Subcommittee. She reported that it appears that the fund will be sufficient to cover this year’s expenses.

Laura Cordes reported that the Subcommittee which deals with the transfer of kits to the State Lab will meet on July 14. It was agreed that representatives from the Joyful Heart Organization, and others such as the Director of the State Lab and the Commissioner of Public Safety should be invited.

The Commission also agreed that another hospital training is needed. It was agreed that two training sessions should be held in the fall.

Joy Reho gave a report about the status of the processing of sexual assault kits at the lab. She reported that the lab has made tremendous progress in processing the kits and hopes to be able to process all submitted kits within 30 days of receipt by the fall.
