“My office will call on the Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) to review this proposed merger to determine its impact on Connecticut Light Power’s (CL&P) and Yankee Gas’ customers, employees, rates, operations and reliability of service.

“My office will independently review this proposal to determine whether it is in the best interest of state consumers, businesses and the companies’ workforces.

“This merger must benefit Connecticut consumers and businesses and create a stronger CL&P and Yankee Gas better able to serve state ratepayers. It must not burden Connecticut consumers and businesses with additional debt and costs. Connecticut consumers and businesses -- already struggling to pay the highest power rates in the continental U.S. -- deserve rate decreases, not increases.”
